Tony Abbott Visits Renovated Bear Cottage
Bear Cottage has undergone major renovations over the past twelve months which will ensure we can continue to provide world class palliative care into the future.
The renovations were the first major works to be undertaken since our opening in 2001. The location for Bear Cottage was found in 1995 with St Patrick's Estate in Manly offering the perfect place to create a 'beach house' type facility to provide respite and palliative care to children. The community rallied behind the proposal and helped to raise $10 million to construct the facility and Bear Cottage was officially opened on St Patrick's Day, 17th March 2001.
These recent renovations were funded by the Federal Government and included a new roof, air conditioning and lighting systems. The hydrotherapy pool has been refurbished, administration offices reconfigured and a new meeting room has been added downstairs.
We were delighted to welcome the Hon Tony Abbott MP to Bear Cottage recently to inspect the completed renovations. It was a wonderful opportunity for Mr Abbott to meet with patients and families and to see how these changes have enhanced the Cottage and improved the care and support we can provide.
